Transfer Student Program Coordinator

The Transfer Student Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and administering Transfer Orientation and Welcome Programs. They will assist in planning, overseeing, implementing, and evaluating the above programs through the effective and efficient use of personnel, funding, resources, communications, and campus partners. The Transfer SPC will work together with 4 other Student Program Coordinators as a team to implement training and programs. Applications will have the opportunity to identify a preferred area of focus: Freshman Orientation, Welcome Week, and Transfer Orientation programs.

Office Responsibilities

  • Offer support and assistance to professional staff through engagement in various projects.
  • Pursuing an active role in managing and maintaining front desk operations, including answering phone calls.
  • Supporting office initiatives and events related to the matriculation process.
  • Balancing academic responsibilities with the requirements of the position.

Position-Specific Responsibilities

  • Recruitment, selection, supervision, and training of student leadership roles including Orientation Leaders, Welcome Week Leaders, and Transfer Student Leaders
  • Planning and delivering of student leader trainings
  • Program documentation
  • Active communication with peers and supervisor


October-December (20 hours/week)

  • Assist in the coordination of the Transfer Student Leader leadership development training
  • Assist in STE event planning + execution
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Orientation in planning for January 2021 orientation programming 

January-April (20-25 hours/week)

  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of 15 Transfer Student Leaders
  • Implement Transfer Student Leader leadership development training
  • Assist in STE event planning + execution

May-July (40-50 hours/week)

  • Plan and implement summer orientation training for Transfer Student Leaders
  • Implement Transfer Orientation

July-September (40-50 hours/week)

  • Implement Transfer Orientation
  • Assist in oversight of the Transfer Track for Welcome Week
  • Provide Welcome Program support and duties as assigned


  • Four semesters of completed coursework at university/college level
  • Prior experiences as an Orientation Leader or Transfer Student Leader preferred, or upper level leadership training and development
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 to be maintained throughout employment and reviewed each semester
  • Enrolled full time (13 credits) as a student through fall semester 2020
  • Not enrolled in classes past 3:00pm on Wednesday nights in spring 2021
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • Prior event programming experience
  • Strong organizational, administrative, customer service, and leadership skills including the ability to effectively communicate, delegate, and work to develop a team
  • Ability to receive and delegate tasks
  • Can positively receive and utilize constructive feedback
  • Self-motivated and possesses a desire to work in a flexible team and focused atmosphere
  • Availability during the Fall, Spring, and Summer to be able to fill the required hours of the position


Through this experience, Student Program Coordinators will:

  • Develop a sense of responsibility and professionalism through work with the OTE professional and student staff, Orientation Leaders, Transfer Student Leaders, and Welcome Week Leaders

  • Work independently and interdependently with other Student Program Coordinators, supervisors, and other OTE staff to make progress toward goals
  • Demonstrate personal strengths and improve upon weaknesses to enhance self-confidence and promote confidence in others
