Commuter Success Program Intern
The Commuter Success Program Intern is responsible for the implementation of the Commuter Success Program through creating and providing a flexible and supportive program for first-year commuter students while promoting a sense of belonging and nutritional well-being. This position works in collaboration with staff from the President's Emerging Scholars (PES), Orientation & Transition Experiences (OTE) and Off-Campus Living (OCL) and reports directly to a Student Success Coach in PES.
Responsibilities
- Hire, train and supervise ~8 to 10 student Commuter Leads who serve as peer mentors to commuter student pods (6-8 first-year students).
- Develop and provide training for Commuter Leads relating to facilitation skills, creating inclusive communities, campus resources and program details such as meal access, tracking attendance, and reporting.
- Organize and coordinate hosted meals by various university colleges and departments to build connections to various resources and communities.
- Develop communications to Commuter Success Program participants regarding opportunities for engagement, campus resources and events, and their status in the program.
- Maintain communication with students through email, Canvas, and groupme
- Coordinate and plan social and educational events for students
- Lead regular Commuter Lead meetings and discussions based on student needs and areas of interest or concern
- Assess and evaluate participant feedback and program effectiveness through surveys, feedback loops and/or focus groups.
- Create end of semester report using collected data from student participation feedback
- Track and monitor student attendance and participation at meals through reports and/or feedback from Commuter Leads weekly
- Organize and maintain working documents in google drive platform
- Meet weekly with supervisor(s) to review responsibilities and provide updates
Qualifications
Required
- Current University of Minnesota student enrolled in at least 6 credits or more for the academic year 2024-2025
- Familiarity with the undergraduate commuter student transition experience at the University of Minnesota
- Demonstrates ability to work independently and interdependently
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
- Desire to work in a flexible and team focused atmosphere
- Desire to serve new students in helping them transition to the University
- Strong organizational, administrative, communication, customer service and leadership skills
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 to be maintained throughout employment and reviewed each semester
- Enrolled as a student through Spring Semester 2025.
Preferred
- Personal experience as a commuter student at the University of Minnesota
- Knowledge of the PES Program or personally identifies as a first-generation student
- Experience planning events for college students

Compensation
This position is paid at an hourly rate of $16.00 an hour with an average of 8-10 hours/week during the academic year.
