Digital Media Intern
The Digital Media Intern strengthens OTE’s presence in the areas of social media and various communications. The position is also responsible for creating monthly newsletters and assisting with various projects, including our Explore U event during Welcome Week. This position reports to the Strategic Communications & Marketing Manager.

Responsibilities
Social Media
- Grow social media presence through assisting in the development of an OTE social media strategy.
- Develop strategies for capturing target audience engagement.
- Conceptualize, create, and publish regularly occurring content that enhances the student transition experience and encourages engagement.
- Collaborate with OTE professional staff and student interns to determine appropriate content.
- Maintain social media profiles such as Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook Page.
- Produce stories and create social media graphics in collaboration with the Design Intern.
- Assist in facilitating social media marketing opportunities (photo booths, etc.).
- Collect analytics and/or create reports to update professional staff of activities and outcomes.
- Attend in person events to produce content for social media feeds.
- Send communications to both on-campus and community organizations and businesses.
- Uplifts the main University of Minnesota social media accounts and overall branding.
Student Transition Communications
- Solicit, collect, and organize resources and events content for monthly Class Newsletters.
- Reaching out to various campus partners etc.
- Create and facilitate transition-focused content to be shared in newsletters.
Marketing and Vendor Support
- Assist in the Orientation Resource Fair and other events related to Orientation and Welcome Week.
- Assist in coordinating and implementing Explore U.
- Solicit Explore U participants during spring semester and summer.
Office Responsibilities
- Offer support and assistance to professional staff through engagement in various projects.
Qualifications
- Student employees must be at least 18 years old to work for Orientation & Transition Experiences.
- Enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota and be in good academic standing.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher to be maintained throughout employment and reviewed each semester.
- An understanding and interest in strategic communication, storytelling, and enhancing the new student experience through effective communication.
- Ability to learn and adhere to university brand standards and divisional marketing practices.
- Strong functional knowledge of social media principles, practices, and the desire to apply that knowledge in a professional environment.
- A strong interest in emerging social media and a desire to learn more about interactive technology, new media, and AI.
- An interest in tracking and documenting analytics of all these technologies in order to understand trends and impact.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, be a creative problem solver, be detailed and organized, and have a conceptual aptitude.
- Willingness and ability to research and learn about concepts or technologies needed to be successful in this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Orientation & Transition Experience programming, including Orientation and Welcome Week.
- Previous experience or coursework related to organizational or professional communications.

Schedule
The Digital Media Intern will maintain a schedule of three days a week in office consisting of 10-15 hours per week through the academic year and 15-25 hours per week in the summer with four to five days per week in office.
This position works primarily in the Orientation & Transition Experiences office located in Coffman Memorial Union.
Compensation
The Digital Media Intern is paid $15.75 per hour.
