Orientation & Transition Experiences is here to support you in your transition to the University of Minnesota. From completing your New Student Checklist to participating in Orientation and Welcome Week, our goal is to provide you with information, experiences, and resources to help you succeed in your time at the U of M.

New Student Checklist

The New Student Checklist includes three emails (two for CLA Transfer Students) with steps to complete. Please note that the second graphic includes checklist highlights for College of Liberal Arts (CLA) students only.

Transfer New Student Checklist with key orientation dates: May 2 and July 25, 2025. Tasks include surveys, course selection, U Card photo upload, and transition resources. Maroon background with gold text and graphics.

Transfer New Student Checklist for the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) with key dates: April 2 and July 25, 2025. Tasks include surveys, course selection, U Card photo upload, transcripts, and transition resources.

April 2 (or once a student confirms enrollment):

  • Complete the Tell Us About Yourself survey

  • Select your Orientation date

  • Review any additional college-specific tasks listed to help you prepare for Orientation and the start of the academic year

May 2: You will receive a second email prompting you to complete additional checklist steps. (CLA Transfer Students will not receive this email.)

July 25: You will receive a final email asking you to finish the remaining items. These include:

  • Your Required Online Modules

  • Campus Transition Resources to help you get ready for Welcome Week

Welcome Week

Students for the letter M at Pride & Spirit

Welcome Week is a fun, week-long event that focuses on finding connections and community, navigating campus, taking part in traditions, and preparing for the semester ahead. Attending Welcome Week events is not required for Transfer students, but is strongly encouraged.

  • Apply for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Online

    • We encourage you to apply for financial aid. Information on various types of aid programs as well the University's financial aid timeline is available at the One Stop website.
