The Orientation Interns (3) are responsible for planning, developing, implementing content, and supporting the overall orientation programs for students, parents, and families. With a focus on program logistics, the Orientation Interns will be involved in planning for spring transfer programming and summer programming for new student and parent and family programs. Interns will coordinate with the supervisor and one another to implement family, morning, and night lead responsibilities (see below). In addition to program implementation, the Orientation Interns will serve as a peer supervisor working with supervisors and other interns to support and mentor OTE student leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of recruitment initiatives of student staff for Orientation and Welcome Week.
  • Manage and update facilitation guides that outline roles and functions of orientation programming.
  • Attend regular Orientation Team Meetings to provide updates and stay informed about programmatic needs/changes.
  • Support instructor(s) in the OUE 3311 course in spring 2026 for OLs, including but not limited to class preparation, grading, and facilitating.
  • Assist in orientation logistical scheduling for both new student orientation, transfer, and family programming.
  • Co-supervise Orientation leaders, engage in active communication with peers and supervisor.
  • Serve as a supporting staff member during major OTE events, including but not limited to Orientation and Welcome Week. 

Family Lead 

  • Assist professional staff with on-site family registration and morning check-in.
  • Serve as a point of contact for mobility family/guest accommodations during orientation programming.
  • Support Family specific sessions, engaging with campus partners and supporting presentations within the Orientation Program.
  • Manage breakout sessions, coordinating with campus partners, and supporting student and professional staff. 

Morning Lead 

  • Implement morning meetings for the Orientation Leaders and assist with the luggage process.
  • Assist with program presenters for orientation programming.
  • Serve as a point of contact for mobility student accommodations during orientation programming.
  • Monitor lunch rotation and manage Orientation Leaders as needed.
  • Co-facilitate RecWell sessions and manage Orientation Leaders 

Night Lead 

  • Support presenters during RecWell sessions and manage Orientation Leaders
  • Monitor dinner/residence hall check and manage Orientation Leaders as needed.
  • Manage late-night activity set up, and support Orientation leaders in implementation.
  • Facilitate evening sessions and presentations of the Orientation Program.
  • Participate in on-call evening responsibilities during Freshman Orientation (June/July dates) in conjunction with graduate interns.

Through this experience, the Orientation Intern will: 

  • Learn to work in a challenging environment, demonstrating flexibility and problem solving skills.
  • Develop a sense of responsibility and professionalism through work with the OTE professional and student staff, Orientation Leaders, New Students, and Parents and Families.
  • Cultivate accountability through timely and quality completion of work.
  • Gain experience in public speaking, event planning, setting and meeting personal and professional goals.
  • Work independently and interdependently with other OTE interns, supervisors, and staff to make progress toward goals.
  • Demonstrate personal strengths and improve upon weaknesses to enhance self-confidence and promote confidence in others.

Qualifications

  • Student employees must be at least 18 years old to work for Orientation & Transition Experiences.
  • At least two semesters of completed coursework at college level by Fall 2025.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher to be maintained throughout employment and
    reviewed each semester.
  • Enrolled full time (13 credits) as a student through at least Fall 2026 semester, and not
    enrolling in Summer 2026 courses (without agreeing with supervisor).
    Not enrolled past 3pm on Wednesdays in the Spring 2026 semester.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Availability during the Fall, Spring, and Summer to be able to fill the required hours of
    the position. Expect to work 10-15 hours per week through the school year and 35-40
    through the summer months.
  • Not planning to study abroad before September 3, 2026 and will not graduate prior to
    December 2026.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experiences as an Orientation Leader.
  • Prior event planning and public speaking experience.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, customer service, and leadership skills including
    the ability to effectively communicate, delegate, and work to develop a team.
  • Demonstrates initiative, is punctual, reliable, and consistent, approachable, positive,
    friendly and has a proactive customer service philosophy.
  • Display strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills and the potential to
    develop these skills.
  • Demonstrated time-management skills and flexibility, and ability to motivate self and
    others.

Compensation

The Orientation Intern is paid $15.75 per hour. They are eligible for overtime pay for weeks requiring more than 40 hours. The Orientation Intern can anticipate working 10-15/week during the Spring semester. Summer work hours will range from 30 to 40 hours per week.
