Get Ready for Advising
During your Orientation day you will meet with an academic advisor and register for your fall classes. It will be helpful to have paper and a writing utensil for your advising meeting. To prepare for your appointment, you should:
- Claim Your U of M Email Address
- Complete Your Placement Assessments
- Bring Your Device for Duo-Authentication. If you are unable to sign-in to Duo, please contact IT to reset.
You should plan to attend your advising appointment without family members present.
Your Orientation Day Schedule
For in-person Orientation, check-in is from 8-8:50 a.m. on the ground floor of Coffman Memorial Union. Your most current schedule will be available on the Orientation Hub at orientation.umn.edu. You will log in with your U of M Internet ID and Password to access your personalized schedule. We encourage you to review your personalized schedule before your Orientation day so you know what to expect. Please note: personalized sessions may be added up to one-day prior to your Orientation date, so be sure to check your schedule frequently and do not rely on screenshots as schedules are updated frequently.
What to Bring
When you check-in to Orientation you will receive some program materials. We also recommend you bring:
- Credit card/mobile pay to pay for parking
- Notebook and pen or pencil
- Device you use for Duo Security
- Comfortable clothing and shoes
- Dress for the weather
Parking
Whether you are driving to campus or arriving via public transit, you can find your way to Orientation using these directions. If driving, please be mindful that morning traffic may cause delays in arriving to campus.
Parking will be in the East River Road Garage.

There are two entrances into East River Road Garage, please make sure you are entering the Public Entrance (pictured) and not the Contract Entrance.
After parking in the East River Road Garage:
Take the elevator to Level 1.
Exit the the building into the courtyard and walk across Delaware Street SE to Coffman Memorial Union. Either walk-up the steps or use the accessible entrance on the west (left) side of the building and enter the ground floor.
Go to the check-in desk where you'll be given a name tag and other materials.
You will receive a voucher in your Get Ready for Orientation email that will have a QR code to be used for discounted parking.

You will indicate your dietary accommodation needs on your Tell Us About Yourself survey. If you have a change to your needs, please visit your New Student Checklist and update your survey.
