Transfer Student Leader (TSL)

Transfer Student Leaders are responsible for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment during Transfer Orientation & Welcome Week’s Transfer Track programs. All transition programs focus on providing a quality transitional experience for new students and help new students prepare for their life at the U of M through planning, exploring campus, building community, and participating in campus traditions. This position requires availability in the spring semester for a B-term class (beginning March 16, 2022) and again for summer training, 13 transfer orientation dates (dates vary in June, July & August), and during Welcome Week.

Responsibilities

  • Complete spring semester training during B-term
  • Participate in summer orientation training
  • Address questions and concerns from transfer students’ and their guests
  • Share your experiences as a transfer student at the U of M
  • Participate in panel discussions and lead workshops
  • Perform various duties as assigned throughout Transfer Track
  • Host students and lead sessions during Welcome Week Transfer Track
  • Complete Welcome Week Training from August 25-30
  • Provide programmatic support to the Welcome Week Program from August 31 - September 4

Program Plan

Plans for a hybrid orientation program (some dates remote and some dates on-campus) are being developed. All programming will be in alignment with recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Health and the University of Minnesota COVID protocols. The modality of the program is subject to change and will be communicated with leaders throughout the process. Please see dates and details below. 

Position Qualifications

  • Undergraduate transfer students
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Knowledge of the U of M transfer process
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated awareness of self and others
  • Ability to think critically and be adaptable to situations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Not planning to study abroad before September 5, 2022 and will not graduate prior to December 2022

  • Monday, August 29- Tuesday, August 30: Welcome Week Support (Hours vary between 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. daily)
  • Wednesday, August 31- Sunday, September 4: Welcome Week: Transfer Track (Hours vary between 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. daily

Compensation

Transfer Student Leaders will be paid $12.00 per hour.
